My LOCAL Holiday Gift Guide - Shops & Makers

Want to support local businesses this Holiday season? Charleston has an incredible small business creative community. I’ve rounded up some of my favorites: 8 brick and mortar shops along with 2 online shops — all locally owned. There’s a shop or maker here for everyone on your list so keep scrolling…

  1. Blu Cotton | Hanging Beds, Barn Doors, Art & Decor

If you talk to my husband, plz tell him I want a swing bed for Christmas. A swing bed on a porch is pretty much the epitome of Lowcountry living. Blu Cotton also makes barn doors of any and all sizes. Ladies: maybe your husband’s man cave needs a barn door to block some of the noise from his video games or sports? Thank me later. Blu Cotton’s store in West Ashley also has wall signs, pillows, soaps, candles, etc (primarily locally made products). Look for Charleston Bath Works soaps in scents like southern sweet tea and Charleston chai!

Stop by their store at 1890 Sam Rittenberg Blvd Suite 214, Charleston, SC 29407.

  2. Cannonborough Collective | Jewelry, Gifts, Art, Plants

Plants: these work for everyone. Your mother in law. Your best friend. The person who has everything. The person from work you got for Secret Santa. At Cannonborough Collective you can snag a lovely little plant grown by Meeting Green Gardens that adds some greenery and oxygen to the home of anyone you know. In addition, this shop carries primarily locally made products including art, stationary, drinkware, turkish towels and oyster shuckers! Look for Charleston Hemp Company’s CBD Oil!

The ladies of Cannonborough Collective are offering my readers 50% off their Turkish Towels! Just mention The Charleston Home.

Shop greenery & more at 185 A St. Philip Street, Charleston, SC 29403.

  3. Blue Bicycle Books | History, Classics, Children’s & more

We all have someone close to us who loves to read. Wouldn’t they love to receive a book from a local little shop in downtown Charleston instead of The Big Box Store? Blue Bicycle specializes in military history and Charleston books, but they have a slew of genres. Keep your eye out for their Charleston books that could also double as coffee table books.

Check them out at 420 King St, Charleston, SC 29403.

  4. Celadon Home | Home Furnishings, Jewelry, Holiday Items

Celadon is primarily known for their solid wood furniture but there is so much more. Bigger items you might give your wife, sister, or best friend, like rugs, mirrors, lamps, and pillows. Or pick up a smaller, but just as fabulous item like a 42 Pressed Charleston copper foil print, a Rewined candle, a piece of statement jewelry or a Christmas ornament. You can even grab a cute greeting card and next thing you know you’ve already got a couple folks checked off your list.

Their 25% off “Company is Coming” sale on dining tables, dining chairs, tabletop, beds, bedding and sleeper sofas ends November 21 so hurry in!

Stop in their store in Mount Pleasant at 1015 Johnnie Dodds Blvd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464.

  5. Burls and Steel | Handmade Knives and Wood Works

Husband and wife Duo Ben and Sydney hand make their steel knives and other metal and wood works here in Charleston. The process to make the knives is very intricate and each one takes hours to weld to perfection. They make kitchen knives, utility knives, and they can customize to any shape or size you’d like. These one-of-a-kind knives would be a fantastic gift for any man, host(ess), or cook in your life.

Shop their all new items just added this week at www.BurlsandSteel.com.

  6. Fourteen & East | Home and Gifts designed by Women

The large majority of the items sold at Fourteen & East are made by ladies, and even better: local ladies. That’s my kind of double whammy! Jenna’s adorable shop is off 17 in West Ashley and I have been in there more than once shopping for closing gifts for clients that just moved to and bought homes in Charleston. She has a beautifully curated selection of items for anyone who loves The Holy City. From photo prints to oyster art to Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit mix and cookbooks, there’s a little somethin’ for everyone. Look for Texture Design Co’s “A Charleston Baby’s First Year Book" for the new baby in your life.

Swing by this holiday season at 936 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC 29407.

  7. The Vault on King | Photography and Art

Everyone you know has a naked wall or two in their home that needs some attention. The Vault on King (King St Downtown) showcases art and photography from 10 Charleston creatives. The styles, sizes and prices vary so you are sure to find something beautiful that tickles your fancy for just about anyone on your shopping list.

Scope them out and support your local artists at their 284 King St studio.

  8. GDC Home | Furniture, Bedding, Jewelry

Another home store (with 3 locations in the Charleston area) with tons of gift options for those on your list that love home decor. Psst- some of the men on your list could probably use some nice bedding (since we all know most men tend to skimp there), and GDC has lots! A little known fact is that they also carry some really stunning jewelry at their Mount Pleasant and Kiawah locations. You can kill more than a couple birds with one stone at GDC.

Black Friday Special: 20% of all in stock merchandise including Clearance November 23-24.

Visit any of their 3 locations:

Charleston - 1290 Sam Rittenberg Dr. Charleston, SC

Mount Pleasant - 695 Coleman Blvd. Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Kiawah - 420 Freshfields Dr. Kiawah Island, SC

  9. The Salted Lantern | Wood Signs, Home, Wedding, Printables

Kait creates beautiful wood signs that are entirely customizable, from size to font to design. Get a sign with a love quote for your significant other, a scripture or motivational quote for friends and siblings, or a family-themed sign for a parent. There’s so much more, too.

Kait is offering my readers 20% off with the coupon code THECHARLESTONHOME.

Have a look at her Etsy shop for all the possibilities at www.etsy.com/shop/TheSaltedLantern.

  10. Two Cumberland | Jewelry, Accessories, Beauty

Two Cumberland is more than just apparel but if you have a fashionista on your list, this is the perfect spot. You know those CHS baseball hats you see everywhere? You can grab one here! They carry lots of jewelry options including the local Market and King line of bracelets. A nice beauty selection of perfumes, soaps, lotions and more. Of course there will be candles. I told my husband when we first started dating that if he didn’t know what to get me for any given holiday, a nice candle (and a massage) would do just fine. Two Cumberland even has a section for the man in your life, including wallets, socks, hair care, and notebooks so he can write down everything you say so he never ever forgets.

Check them out downtown or in Mount Pleasant. 455 King St, Charleston, SC 29403 and 1126 Bowman Rd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464.

I hope y’all enjoyed this round up of some of my favorites. Message me if you’re looking for something in particular and I can point you in the right direction.

Stay tuned for my next gift guide— a more specific list highlighting a few of my favorite locally made products.

Thank you for supporting local and Happy Holidays!
