Make a Real Wreath for $6! (with only 2 supplies)
Real wreaths (and even the faux ones!) can be quite expensive. Plus, they don’t give off any of that heavenly evergreen scent. I’m here to show you how to make your own for $6 and with only two supplies! Follow the same instructions next year, and it’ll be free :)
The process is cheaper and easier than it looks, I promise.
All you need is:
Metal wreath ring
(Mine is 12”, but you can go bigger with a 16” wreath ring if you want)
Leftover tree trimmings
Clippers or good scissors
You can get tree trimmings by keeping the pieces they cut off the bottom of your tree before they wrap it, or try stopping by a tree stand and ask them for leftovers. In my experience they’re willing to just give you a bunch. #freedollars
Here’s a step by step:
Cut off several 5-7 inch pieces off of bigger branches. Some a little thicker than others. The piece in the photo is about 7-8 inches.
Cut off some smaller 3-5 inch pieces
“Weave” the bigger pieces through the rings to get them as secure as possible. (see photo) I recommend trying to have them face essentially the same way all the way around.
Fill in gaps with the smaller pieces
Keep in mind you’re just weaving and intertwining the pieces throughout the rings, so as you go, make sure they are in there pretty good. If you do, then you don’t have to worry about losing pieces later, despite not using any glue.
5. Trim the stray edges with scissors to give it a more clean look. Or don’t, and it’ll create a more natural look! See below for before and after trimming the edges.
That’s pretty much it! You can add a bow, or red berries or nothing at all. I added a couple sprigs off a bush in my front yard for some color.
It might help to spritz with water every few days to prevent it from drying out too quickly, but in my experience it will last a whole month regardless.
