Detoxing My Charleston Home Week No. 3 | EMF Protection
I have a confession. I’m on my phone over 8 hours a day. Granted, I run a business from my phone, but no doubt that is a lot. Often I wonder what kind of long-term damage from the radiation I may be doing to my eyes, skin, cells etc.
A couple local Charleston folks inspired me to dig into this a little more when they shared about harmful EMF’s (electromagnetic frequencies) on their pages. Katie from Mylk Bar talked about these EMF protection stickers in her stories (see her Healthy Living highlight) and Kim Graham (@kimgrahamphoto) talked about how she likes to turn all her breakers off at night when she sleeps, shutting down all the electricity, WiFi, etc.
It got me thinking that there HAS to be some potential long term harm from all the electronics in our lives. Currently there has not been extensive research on this, due in part to the fact that many of these electronics have not been around long enough to know all of the long-term affects. It’s also worth noting that it is most certainly a conflict of interest for big businesses to care, explore, or disclose any health effects from their products.
Keep reading for some of the research performed thus far…
The radiation from cell phones is considered low-frequency radiation. Other examples include microwave ovens, smart meters, WiFi, cell phones, Bluetooth, power lines, and MRIs. Per Wellness Mama’s article, Is EMF Exposure Really a Big Deal?, “The International Agency for Research on Cancer has already categorized low frequency EMF radiation a class 2B possible carcinogen (source). However, harmful effects of EMF radiation are not limited to cancer.”
In addition: ”Chronic high levels of low frequency EMF exposure can result in:
Insomnia
Anxiety
Depression
Brain fog
Dizziness and vertigo
Frequent illnesses
HPA axis dysfunction (also known as adrenal fatigue)
Hormone imbalances
Cancer or increased in cancer risk
(source 1, source 2, source 3)”
Yikes!
You can learn more from Wellness Mama’s article I’ve sited above, plus I recommend listening to the podcast she did with Peter Sierck of EMFRF.com.
Based on everything I have read on this topic, I strongly believe that radiation from electronics we use every single day; the kinds we hold in our hands, put in our pockets, and sleep next to, are causing some harm whether it’s noticeable now or not. And I would rather be safe than sorry. I’m all for simple changes that can have a big impact, now or later.
So What Can We Do?
All this being said, a few weeks ago I bought the EMF shield stickers that Katie recommended. As recommended, I put the stickers on each side of my microwave, in my cell phone case, on the bottom of my laptop and on my WiFi router. Of course I gave my husband one for his cell phone too. You can also place them on TV’s and desktop computers. In particular I am really appreciating peace of mind that these little stickers are protecting me from the radiation from this dang phone I have in my hands more than 8 hours a day!
In addition, Himalayan salt lamps (this is the one I have) are recommended because they also emit a negative electrical charge that ionizes our atmosphere, reducing the EMF radiation.
Regarding cell phones usage: Never sleep with it by your head and don’t carry it in your pocket or bra, unless it’s on airplane mode.

I hope this helps! Another small and simple step to eliminate the bad guys from my home and yours.
